Typography

Luxuria font ©

Typography has always fascinated me and I decide to start designing my own font. Luxuria is the latin word for lust, one of the seven deadly sins, which also became the name of my font in order to be used in a fashion context. The inspiration for my design fonts are transitional serif typeface Baskerville and modern serif typeface Bodoni. I became interested in how the serifs appear in Baskerville. In the case of Bodoni, my attention was directed to the geometric shapes and the contrast between the main strokes and hairlines. This contrast between thin and thick lines began with Baskerville’s types, however, Bodoni, you can see that the contrast was driven to a major stroke. I started sketching and focusing on the contrast between the

main strokes and hairlines. When the lines started to become very thin, I chose to draw them thinner, which almost disappears. I wanted to create cleaner letters compared to modern fonts. With the help of sketches I drew the letters in a way that made them harmonious, consistent with a particular focus on its symmetry. When I drew the letters I worked in a vertical emphasis. Regarding the use of Luxuria,
I chose to design a typeface that would be useful on the cover, title pages, headings and logos. I created the font Luxuria considering to use them in a fashion and art contexts. For example, magazines or products, etc. Hope you enjoyed Luxuria sample.

About

” I like to tell stories in different ways… my creativity makes people to believe in these stories. “

My name is Fabio Scali and I am a multi-disciplinary designer currently living in Stockholm. I was born and raised in Milan and throughout my life I have always been interested in visual arts and dedicated my free time to drawing and painting. In 2006 I moved to Stockholm and I began to become interested in multimedia design. I´ve been studying Visual Communication and Multimedia Design at the Södertörn University and in June 2011 I received a Bachelor of Science with a Major in Media Technology. During my studies I have learnt to appreciate and compare with a multi dimensional approach.

My training has developed my skills in: graphic design, corporate identity, branding, interactive design, typography, illustration, video & audio editing, photography, web and more. I am constantly researching to improve myself and my skills. I try to find the balance between creativity and technology.
I am a perfectionist. I love designing with simplicity and clean shapes. I adore minimalism, the ‘less is more’ philosophy. I appreciate the capturing of moments in pictures. The idea of carrying everything that is around me in a different translation of projects.
